About

Doors Open Days is Scotland's largest free festival that celebrates heritage and the built environment

It offers free access to over a thousand venues across the country throughout September, every year. The aim of Doors Open Days is to ensure that Scotland's built heritage, new and old, is made accessible to people living and visiting the country on weekends in September.

Doors Open Days, with Scottish Archaeology Month, form Scotland's contribution to European Heritage Days, a joint initiative of the Council of Europe and the European Union. Historic Environment Scotland funds and supports the national coordination of these two events. Doors Open Days 2017 is sponsored by Aberdeen Asset Management.

Scotland’s buildings and places are important to us. We work with people, communities and groups to understand, care for and improve their local environment for the wellbeing of all.

The Scottish Civic Trust is the national body for the civic movement in Scotland. It engages proactively with local civic groups across Scotland and regularly comments and campaigns for the improvement of Scotland's individual buildings and areas of distinction. We act as the national co-ordinator for Doors Open Days across Scotland.
